After dedicating his entire career working for Bradesco bank, the bank recently honored Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi by appointing him as the chairman of the bank. Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi is one of the greatest leaders the Brazilian banking sector has ever seen. Although he had no background training in banking, Luiz beat all odds to become the crème de la crème of the banking sector.
He has earned a name for himself among his colleagues and the general public. He is a highly respected figure in the banking corridors and his opinion is quoted with authority by leading newspapers and magazines. But many people wonder how an intern, who had just graduated with a degree in philosophy would emerge the best in the highly competitive field.
Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi’s background
Luiz was born into a family of leaders. His father was a banker and an influential figure in the banking scene. On his part, Luiz never wanted to major into the mainstream career. He was passionate about football and he always dreamt of becoming a professional footballer. At a young age, Luiz played for some of the renowned teams in the country.
However, when he completed his studies, his father convinced him to consider a career in the banking industry. During this time, Bradesco bank was recruiting interns and Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi applied for the internship. Fortunately, he was among the candidates who were called to intern at the Bradesco branch based in Marila, his hometown.
Starting a challenging career in banking
Considering that he had no background training in banking, Luiz found it difficult to adapt to the new career in the early days. He was only seventeen years old with a whole life ahead of him. However, at his young age, Luiz portrayed a lot of maturity that was uncommon with his peers. His bosses were impressed with his performance and they decided to retain him after he completed the internship.
His first role at Bradesco bank was that of a bank clerk. As a teller, Luiz presented many proposals to the management where most of the changes were adopted by the management. The management noticed the innate leadership abilities in Luiz and he was promoted to lead the marketing department. Again, he introduced many changes that earned Bradesco a name in the competitive banking sector.
Entering the executives’ inner circle
After working in various departments and successfully turning around their performance, Luiz was appointed to lead the ailing insurance and pensions division of the bank. He again introduced a raft of changes that made Bradesco Seguros the best insurance provider in Latin America. To recognize his efforts at Bradesco Seguros, Luiz was named the Insurance Personality of the year in 2003 and 2009. He left the division in 2009 when he was tapped to become the bank’s president.
Reaching the apex
Recently, Luiz was nominated to become the chairman of Bradesco bank after serving in the institution for 47 years. During his career, Luiz has nurtured many other leaders, including Octavio de Lazari who replaced him as the president of the bank in March this year.
